The New York Times Online – Past-Present-Future

New York Times

One of the most recognizable names in the news world is the New York Times. This newspaper has brought readers information on local and national events since 1851. The newspapers motto, “All the News That’s Fit to Print,” is a testament to the scope and variety of topics covered in the paper. The New York Times was started by Henry Jarvis Raymond and George Jones and originally sold for 1 cent a copy. The print version adopted over time until 1996 when the publication went digital with nytimes.com. Although the print version of the paper can still be obtained, circulation has fallen to under 1 million.

Since its introduction, the website Nytimes.com has continuously been ranked one of the top websites on the Internet. It has thousands of new visitors every month as people still look to this publication for all their news needs. The website locked out some its content in 2005 and only allowed subscribed readers to access it. This caused readership to fall as many other sites simply reposted the subscription content where users could get access to it for free. While much of the content on nytimes.com is available to everyone, there are still subscription costs for users who want to access content on their tablet or smartphone.

There are many sections of content that are available to readers of the website. Some of the most popular are the U.S. and World sections of the newspaper. These sections give readers access to information on current events as reported by some of the most respected journalists. It also hosts opinion, sports, health, and a long list of content on various subjects.

The New York Times has received numerous awards in its years of existence. It has won 106 Pulitzer Prizes for articles it published. The New York Times has changed ownership, style, and delivery method over the years, but has always kept the quality content that makes it one of the most noted names in journalism.
