Windows Live Hotmail is a Microsoft product that was formerly known as MSN Hotmail. Hotmail operations are based in California. It is currently the number one email hosting service on the internet. An estimated 364 million users have Hotmail accounts. Features include some of the best security that free email sites can offer, unlimited storage and integration with other Microsoft properties, such as Windows Live Messenger.
Hotmail can be accessed through login.live.com. Users can also link their Hotmail accounts to their smartphones for easy access on mobile devices. On the login page, there is the option to sync Hotmail to your smartphone on the left. To the right, there are the login fields. Enter a Windows Live Id, which may end with @hotmail, @live or @msn .com. The second field is the password entry. If the user wishes to open an account, there is a sign up button with the phone sync options.
Once inside a hotmail account, there is a menu at the top of the page with links to Messenger, SkyDrive and MSN. Below that and to the left, there is a sidebar menu with all of the email folder options. At the bottom of this menu is a link to Windows Live Messenger. A large center/right box holds all emails. When first opened, it will display the inbox. To view other folders, click on the folder’s link in the left hand menu. There is a search bar on the top right of the email box so users can search keywords in their email.
Email options are located at the bottom of the email box. To delete a message, check the box to the right of the email and then scroll to the bottom of the box to click delete. There are also options to mark as new or move to a folder. It is a basic system, much like any other email system. It also seems to work well, given the number of people who use it.
