Through a ‘major announcement’ event held at Milk Studios in Hollywood yesterday, June 18th, Microsoft has launched their newest line of PCs designed for the Windows RT and Windows 8 operating systems. The Microsoft Surface tablets, dubbed by the company as an entirely new line of computing devices, are highlighted by their distinctive industrial design and impressive specifications. The two tablets, Surface for Windows RT and Surface for Windows 8 Pro, possess very identical exterior design and features although both devices work through different operating systems and possess individual capacities.
With the Surface tablets, Microsoft has focused on making ‘advances in industrial design’, whether in the construction of the tablets’ VaporMg casing, Integrated Kickstand, Touch Cover interface or their unique take on ‘letting the hardware fade into the background and the software stand out.’ The release of Windows 8 will coincide with the availability of Surface for Windows RT, with Surface for Windows 8 Pro expected to be available after 90 days of the said Windows 8 launch.
CEO Steve Balmer spoke at the Hollywood event, saying that the launch of the Surface tablets have introduced a ‘new era of cloud computing’ and allowed the company to ‘embrace mobility’.
