Google just killed Postrank for Google Reader and Postrank Analytics (widget)

Written on 04 April 2012 by Vincent Abry

For those who use Google Reader every day to read and find top posts among thousands news, you must know PostRank. This is an app that sort top posts with assigning a rating between 1 and 10 to each item from RSS feeds. This is very useful to sort items by selecting those whose score is greater than 2.7 +, 5.4 + or 7.6 + (see image below).

Well guys, Google just killed it… since April 1, and no, it’s not an April Fool’s Prank. Postrank Analytics’ widget is also dead.

Postrank Google Reader

Actually PostRank announced the interruption of service in January, with a reminder on March 15, even if users did not believe it.

You should know that Google acquired the Canadian startup PostRank in June 2011. So now the future of Postrank is in Google’s hands…

Very sad end for a really interesting decision tool… We can hope that Google will integrate Postrank Technology in a next version of Google Reader. But this is not sure.

The hunt for Postrank Alternatives is now open … or a similar premium service soon?

Still looking for a good PostRank replacement. Did you have any luck finding one? It get’s really hard to comb through my feeds without that social layer. Goes to show yet again that Google hasn’t got a clue when it comes to social.

Just now I found that the TOP post widgets was missing in my blog… :)

If you’re a Blogger user, Google has a Popular Posts widget at least!
