Google will release its first two ChromeBook Laptops, under the brands Acer and Samsung, as soon as June 15 2011, online.
The Chromebook is a laptop that will run on the operating system of Google Chrome OS, especially designed for web browsing. No programs to install, no need for antivirus. Just the Web, only the WEB!
The chromebooks start in 8 seconds and automatically connect to the Internet via Wi-Fi or 3G. All applications and documents are stored in the cloud and the updates are automatic.
The two models:
-Acer 11.6-inch screen. Atom Dual Core processor, Wi-Fi, 3G, HD Webcam, 2 USB ports, memory card 4 in 1, HDMI port. Autonomy : 6 hours.
-Samsung 12.1-inch 1280 x 800 pixels. Atom dual core processor, Wi-Fi, 3G, HD Webcam, 2 USB 2.0 ports, memory card reader 4 in 1, mini-VGA port. Autonomy: 8 hours.
Availability: June 15 online on Amazon.com and in the following countries: USA, UK, France, Germany, Netherlands, Italy and Spain.
Price: $ 349 for the Acer Wi-fi, a little more for the 3G version.
$ 429 for the Samsung Wi-Fi and $ 499 for the 3G version.
Business Plan: $ 28 per month per user.
Student Plan: $ 20 per month.
For Google, these laptops should boost web searches and revenue from advertising. For publishers we can probably expect an increase in traffic if Chromebook meet success. To say that everyone will abandon Windows PC (Microsoft) is a little premature …. Still, this offer cloud computing has a bright future. Stay tuned.
