If you’re one of the many Facebook users who wish you could edit your very lengthy comment rather than have to delete it and re-type it again, you will definitely welcome this newest tool from Facebook.

Facebook edit comments

The leading social network has just recently made available the ability for users to edit their comments both on their own published statuses and on other people’s Facebook status updates. It has been a dilemma for many users in the past to type the perfect comment only to discover some kind of typo right after posting it. Now, this newest ability from Facebook – which appears as a pencil icon in the upper right section of the comment box – makes commenting and editing the comments much easier. The comment-editing option eliminates the need to entirely repost a new comment and the annoyance of receiving a new notification each time a new comment has to be posted again right after changes have been made.

Speaking to Mashable, Facebook also added that more than its editing capability the tool will also show the editing history for any specific comment, allowing everyone who reads or comments on the status to keep track of the conversation. This also helps prevent any form of abuse on the new editing feature, as comments may now be changed or edited any time. This way, no one will have the ability to embarrass their friends or carry out stealthy, mischievous activities on the site by altering comments and possibly changing the conversation context.

The comment-editing feature was first made available on Thursday. Facebook expects the tool to be rolled out to all users within the following days. Within the first day, a few people were able to use the feature but they report that editing had to be done within 30 seconds. Editing can be done anytime the user feels the need to, even on very old comments from previous status updates.
