Can I flag spammy backlinks to Google ?

Interesting video from Matt Cutts who answers the question: “Is there a process through which a site owner can flag spammy links being built to their site by a competitor ? How Google does protect his engine and algorithm against Negative SEO ?”

And the answer is: No, not yet. Cutts told it’s a feature that we could find soon in Google Webmaster Tools console. He also added that this option is not present at the moment because he said it’s very difficult for competitors to destabilize another competitor website with spammy backlinks (especially if the site already has some authority).

Mr. Google Anti-spam Swat Team member Cutts said that it is not impossible to 100%, but almost impossible (so we’ll say 99%). The speech is the same as it 4 years ago, but the search had probably improved on the “Negative SEO” problem.

This kind of unfair practices was mainly observed in areas on the internet where there is a lot of money at stake, as on e-commerce websites.
